International Dyslipidaemia Management Guidelines

International Atherosclerosis Society recommendations for the management of dyslipidaemia

  • Reduce saturated fatty acids (to¬†<7% of total energy), and trans fatty acids (to 1% of total energy)
  • Replace excess saturated fatty acids with monounsaturated/polyunsaturated fatty acids or complex carbohydrates
  • Consume fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids
  • Eat foods low in sodium and high in potassium
  • Reduce dietary cholesterol
  • Consume lots of fruit, vegetables and fibre
  • Limit alcohol to 2 servings per day for men and 1 serving per day for women
  • Increase soluble fibre
  • Consider adding plant sterols / stanols to lower LDL-cholesterol
